So, I woke up this morning after having spent a few hours of my life partying and for some odd reason felt an urge to start up blogging. After all, this was the first day of 2010, so what better way to begin the years then to reminisce online with my first blog? (And yea, I am that big of a geek) So in the spirit of 2010, I decided to rank the top 5 biggest events that happened in Stuyvesant personally to me.
#5. Mole Day
As a privileged member of the Chemistry class of Miss. Pluchino, I was able to experience the legendary Mole Day, a day dedicated to the aspiring chemist. Basically, it was 40 minutes of cokes, mentos, and chaos. A bunch of students brought in diet coke and mentos and we... uh..... "Experimented" to see how big of an explosion we could make. Good times.
#4. PSAT Results
So after taking the dreaded PSAT, waiting a few months, and forgetting about the test, I was handed an abrupt reminder of the darn thing with my PSAT results. It was a day where I was truly introduced the madness of the average Stuyvesant student. All I heard the entire day was "what'd you get?" or "how was your grade on the PSAT?" It was a day full of tears, disappointment, and heartbreak. (Nobody was happy)
#3. First Day of School
As an incoming sophomore, I was given an abrupt introduction to the famous (or infamous) Stuyvesant School, on one bright September morning. After figuring out my way through the LIRR and the subway, I entered into a building that resembled a police station. (Complete with the dead faces of its criminals Here, I sat around for a couple hours, was given a schedule, then sent off to find my way through the 10 story building. I was absolutely lost, with no friends, but remember with triumph that I was able to find my classes and report to them on time. (YAY) It was a very memorable intro the famed Stuy High.
#2 Villiger Speech and Debate Tournament
Though this wasn't strictly during a school day, it does stick to my mind all definitely a time where I had some fun. After the nightmare of losing my permission slip and getting all my teachers to sign a new one on the day of the trip, I boarded a bus full of debate kids and we were off to the Philly. Yes, the PDF division did terrible, and yes, I suffered from a major lack of sleep, but the shopping spree at targets, the heated debates, and the food made up for everything.
#1 OD Fire Drills
Seriously, was there any dispute to what event would get top place? Obviously, the fires at Stuy and all the drama that followed made up the biggest event in the 08 year of Stuyvesant. What with math teachers diving left and right in heroic attempts to douse the flames, to students missing their lunch (twice!), to creepy posters being put up, and even a scary threat being put out by the administration, this series of fires left a burn on my memory (see what I did there? "Burn" with "fire"?) And with the stunning conclusion of the supposed arsonist being caught yet a fire happening the very next day, this entire fiasco could have been made into a TV show.
So this concludes by first blog ever for Stuyvesant on the top 5 Biggest Stuy High Events of the Later Half of 09. And I apologize for the long title right now. Thanks for reading I hope to write again! <=)>
